Biography: Charles E. Rackley received his MD Degree from Duke University in 1958. Residency in Internal Medicine was at Duke and the University of Washington in Seattle. Cardiology Fellowships followed at the University of Washington and at Duke. He then served on the Faculty at the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina and later at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In Birmingham, he was Director of the Myocardial Infarction Research Unit followed by Director of the Specialized Center Research for Ischemic Heart Disease. In 1982, he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, and in 1988 became the Director of Lipid Disorder Center. He has served on editorial Boards of ten Cardiovascular Journals, Chairman of the NIH Cardiovascular Renal Study Section, and the Cardiovascular Advisory Committee for the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He was President of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation and also a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. He has published 22 books and 367 scientific publications. He currently serves on the Task Force for Hormonal Replacement Therapy and Coronary Heart Disease for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
