Kurt A. Melstrom, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., is an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery, specializing in colorectal surgery. Dr. Melstrom graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, prior to receiving his medical doctorate from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where he also pursued a fellowship in trauma and burn research. In 2011, Dr. Melstrom completed his second residency in colon and rectal surgery while training at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Board certified in surgery and in colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Melstrom has also received special training in robotic surgery, laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery, colposcopy and high resolution anoscopy. He has been recognized for several honors and awards, including the Loyola Surgery Resident Service Project Award, which he received while serving as Administrative Chief Resident. In addition, he was selected as recipient of the John L. Keeley Surgical Fellowship in Osaka, Japan. An active member in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Melstrom has published several peer-reviewed articles and is a frequent speaker at national conferences.
