Suicide is a significant public health problem and the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. Suicide rates have been rising in nearly every state over the past two decades. On average, there are 132 suicides a day. Based on the 2018 National Survey of Drug Use and Mental Health, it is estimated that 0.5 percent of the adults aged 18 or older made at least one suicide attempt, which translates to approximately 1.4 million adults.
