May 1, 2025TRENDING WELLNESS TOPICS: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is violence or aggression that occurs in a close relationship, varying in frequency and severity. IPV has lasting impacts on the health and well-being of the entire family involved. The four types of intimate partner violence include physical violence, sexual violence, stalking, and psychological aggression. IPV is prevalent- about 41% of women and 26% of men have experienced contact, sexual violence, physical violence, and stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime. Over 61 million women and 53 million men experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Victims of IPV frequently use health services, yet they are often unrecognized. The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends that clinicians screen all women of childbearing age for intimate partner violence. Healthcare providers need to know about strategies for identifying intimate partner violence, screening during periodic health exams, and case finding in patients with suggestive signs or symptoms..
