September 25, 2025Did you know that September 23rd is the International Day of Sign Languages? This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of sign languages and celebrating the rich culture and contributions of the Deaf community.
Today’s photo shows a man signing the word “Interpreter” in American Sign Language (ASL).
ASL is one of the most widely recognized sign languages, particularly in North America. While some people refer to it as an “international sign language,” it’s important to note that there are approximately 300 distinct sign languages used worldwide. Each country or region often has its unique sign language—such as British Sign Language (BSL)—and some countries even have multiple sign languages. Regional dialects and variations are also standard within each language.
