August 13, 2025FEATURED MEDICAL EDUCATION TOPIC: Immunization Update
What is the problem?
As we enter the respiratory season and the new school year begins, outbreaks of respiratory and other diseases are expected. The CDC has released updated immunization guidelines and recommendations for children, adolescents, and adults. Physicians need to be up-to-date with this new information. It is important for physicians to be able to discuss options and current recommendations for vaccines with their patient populations.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learners will be able to:
- Identify individuals who are at risk from vaccine-preventable infections and diagnose them in a timely manner
- Vaccinate patients to prevent outbreaks while navigating patients’ and/or parents’ cultural beliefs concerning vaccinations, and address concerns as they arise
- Recognize the clinical presentation of long-term effects
- Employ an appropriate combination of vaccines for children and adults
- Educate patients and address their concerns about vaccinations while maintaining a culturally sensitive approach
