December 13, 2024TRENDING Medical education topic: Malnutrition: Evaluation and Management in Adult and Geriatric Patients
Malnutrition occurs when a person doesn’t get enough nutrients or consumes too many calories without sufficient variety. Malnutrition is a common issue that can affect anyone, but older adults are at higher risk. It can be associated with physical decline, as well as increased morbidity and mortality. Criteria for the factors that qualify a patient to be considered for malnutrition have changed over the past few years. Physicians need to be knowledgeable on when a patient should be diagnosed with malnutrition and when they should not. Additionally, it is important to identify the difference between severe and mild malnutrition.
