May 1, 2025FEATURED Medical education topic: Sports Injuries
More than 46 million children and adolescents participate in organized sports in the United States yearly. It is estimated that sports-related injuries cause approximately 3 million emergency room visits every year. The most common diagnoses include sprains and strains, fractures, contusions and abrasions, and concussions. Sports and recreational activities contribute to over 21% of all traumatic brain injuries. It is important for healthcare professionals to be familiar with various sports-related injuries they may encounter in their practice, including appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment options available.
