October 4, 2024FEATURED Medical education topic: ADHD
ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. It is estimated that 7 million children in the United States, ages 3-17, have had an ADHD diagnosis. The overall prevalence of current ADHD in adults is 4%. There is no single test to diagnose ADHD and many other problems, like anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and certain types of learning disabilities, can have similar symptoms. In most cases, ADHD is best treated with a combination of behavior therapy and medication. It is important for healthcare professionals to know about current guidelines for the diagnosis and management of ADHD in all populations.
