What is the problem?
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women across all races and ethnicities. About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer throughout their lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2022. Many breast cancer cases are very treatable when caught early, and mammograms are a reliable test to detect it. The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recently issued an updated recommendation on breast cancer screening, now recommending that women begin getting mammograms at the age of 40 every other year. It is important for healthcare professionals to know about these new screening guidelines for women.
