September 30, 2022TRENDING MEDICAL EDUCATION TOPIC: EMTALA – EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT & LABOR ACT
Hospitals across the country often struggle to implement the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). EMTALA was created to ensure public access to emergency services, regardless of ability to pay, preventing patients from receiving substandard care based on their financial status. For hospitals with a dedicated emergency department, EMTALA is triggered when a person who is not already a patient comes to the hospital and makes a request for emergency care. While EMTALA has been in place for years, violations of this statute continue to occur in a variety of settings. Having a working knowledge of EMTALA helps improve patient care and minimizes the risk Of an EMTALA violation.
Here are the learning objectives a speaker from Medical Education Speakers Network can help your staff accomplish in a session:
- Understand the origins of EMTALA.
- Develop effective strategies to ensure that you meet your obligations under EMTALA.
