When False Beliefs Undermine Healthcare: Medical Mistrust, Disinformation, and Motivated Reasoning in 2025 and Beyond
July 15, 2025featured medical Education TOPIC: Management of Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcomas
What is the problem?
Sarcoma refers to a broad group of cancers that originate in the bone or soft tissues. It is estimated that in the United States, about 13,520 new cases of soft tissue sarcomas and about 3,770 new cases of primary bone sarcomas will be diagnosed in 2025. Sarcomas are often misunderstood due to their rarity, making up only 1% of all adult cancers. Sarcomas can be challenging to detect and may sometimes be misdiagnosed. For the accurate diagnosis of sarcomas, it is essential to involve clinical evaluation, imaging, and tissue analysis. Various treatment options are available, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as novel specific drugs and promising biological therapies.
Proposed Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, the learners will be able to:
- Describe the importance of accurate diagnosis for bone and soft tissue sarcomas
- Know how to evaluate patients with suspected bone and soft tissue sarcomas
- Identify treatment options for sarcomas, incorporating multidisciplinary approaches
