November 28, 2023TRENDING TOPIC: Smoking Cessation
What is the problem?
Smoking continues to be the leading cause of preventable disease, disability, and death in the United States and costs billions of dollars annually. 11.5% of all adults were current cigarette smokers in 2021; each day, more than 1,600 people under 18 smoke their first cigarette. Quitting smoking significantly reduces the risk of developing smoking-related diseases and enhances quality of life. There are helpful treatments and resources for quitting, and primary health-care providers need to assess tobacco use among their adult and adolescent patients and counsel users to help them quit.
