March 28, 2023TRENDING MEDICAL EDUCATION TOPIC: COMPREHENSIVE GERIATRIC ASSESSMENT
The baby boomers are aging – by 2030, the population over 65 will more than double to over 70 million people in the U.S. A substantial majority of these older persons are in California. Geriatric patients consume a disproportionate share of healthcare resources. Estimates from the U.S. suggest that 50% of healthcare costs are attributed to 5% of the population characterized as high-risk, high-need patients. Healthcare providers and healthcare organizations must implement geriatric models of care and geriatric best practices to care for this growing older population optimally.
After a presentation on Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment from a speaker with Medical Education Speakers Network, participants will be able to:
- Identify the geriatric syndromes commonly affecting older persons
- Describe geriatric assessment tools that health care providers can use
- Compare / contrast treatment of different geriatric syndromes, with a particular focus on delirium
