Is Anyone Out There?
May 31, 2026Increasing Attendance: A 5-Week Series for Medical Education Meeting Planners
Last week: Promote Early
This week: Leadership alignment
Tip #2: Get the right medical leaders to support your meeting and be in the room
Physicians attend what their leaders visibly support.
No promotional email will ever carry more weight than a department chair who shows up or a chief who personally invites their medical staff to attend.
Here’s how to activate leadership as your highest-leverage attendance strategy:
- Match the leader to the topic. Surgical session? Engage the surgery chair. Pharmacy update? Loop in the pharmacy director
- Ask chairs, chiefs, and department heads to reach out personally to their medical staff, not just forward the mass email
- When leaders understand why the topic matters to their team (Patient Care), they advocate for it; they don’t just pass it along
- A personal note from a chief moves the needle more than any announcement blast
When the chief or leadership is attending and encouraging, the medical staff follow. That’s a signal no email can replicate.
