New Guidelines for Colon Cancer Screening & Management
March 11, 2024Featured Medical education topic: asthma
Asthma is a common chronic disease that can be controlled but not cured. Asthma affects 26.5 million people, including 6.1 million children under 18. A recent study showed that the use of opioids during pregnancy can increase the risk of asthma in children. Asthma is a significant health and economic burden to patients, their families, and society. Physicians need to identify populations at risk for adverse outcomes related to asthma, determine the appropriate diagnosis, and follow recommended guidelines for management.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, the learners will be able to:
- Identify epidemiology, prevalence, and risk factors for asthma, including social and racial disparities
- Understand how to diagnose asthma
- Describe the goals of asthma care
- Illustrate current recommended treatment algorithms
