What is the problem?
The aging population faces multiple nutritional challenges (i.e., malnutrition, sarcopenia, constipation, UTIs, hypochlorhydria) that have been linked with disease and a shorter lifespan. Good nutrition boosts resistance to diseases and stress. It allows the inherited constitution to come into its own, so that the elderly person who is genetically programmed to remain “young” for a longer period is enabled to reach a high age. It is imperative that our physicians are updated on this information for the prevention of major chronic diseases and to slow the aging process. This activity was planned to help educate physicians on how to address nutrition-related issues for the aging population.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learners will be able to:
- List the consequences of malnutrition
- Name micronutrients that are commonly low in the aging population
- Employ nutritional and supplemental strategies to combat sarcopenia
If your medical staff needs an update on nutrition in the aging population, consider contacting our office to book a speaker at 877-505-4777 or info@speakersnetwork.com.
