Is your medical staff prepared to diagnose and treat Endometriosis?

TRENDING MEDICAL EDUCATION TOPIC: ENDOMETRIOSIS

Endometriosis is a common health problem for women, affecting as many as 11% of women
in the United States during their reproductive years. It is prevalent among women in their 30s
and 40s and may increase trouble getting pregnant. Endometriosis is one of the most
frequent causes of chronic pelvic pain in women. However, the wide range of associated
symptoms and significant overlap with other conditions can delay a diagnosis of
endometriosis for an average of 6-11 years from symptom onset. Many even remain
undiagnosed and are therefore not treated. Because clinicians have difficulty differentiating
the causes of chronic pelvic pain, many patients are not adequately managed. As a result,
chronic pelvic pain can severely affect a woman’s sense of well-being and quality of life.

Does your medical staff need an update on the diagnosis and treatment of Endometriosis? Here are some of the learning objectives that our faculty can cover in a 1-hour CME lecture:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology of endometriosis
  2. List current medical treatment options available
  3. Identify surgical treatment options
  4. Review the controversy of postop care from hysterectomy and BSO – to give
    combined HRT or not
  5. Know how to counsel patients regarding the fertility treatment options, factoring in
    age and other cultural considerations
