Mitigating the implicit bias of health providers is a strategy for addressing health disparities at the individual level as opposed to the systemic level.Bias needs to be understood and identified in the many aspects of healthcare, including bias towards patients, health providers, staff, and learners and methods found to address it. One such was to address bias is to investigate the phenomenon of microaggression in the healthcare setting as microaggressions can be understood as a manifestation of bias. Microaggressions can be categorized generally as casual debasements of a group, e.g. groups based on race, ethnicity, geography, LBGTQ+, disability, sex, and age.
